Celebration

It’s a little-known bit of history that early Chinese residents of New York City fundraised to support Jewish victims of pogroms in Europe even as they themselves were burdened by discriminatory laws and the infamous Chinese Exclusion Act (1882 – 1943). The photos are venues – the Chinese Theatre and the famed Chinese Delmonico restaurant – where these events took place. I lead a Jane’s Walk (in memory of Jane Jacobs), and to help celebrate AAPI Heritage: https://www.mas.org/events/forgotten-history-of-chinese-in-new-york-2/
