mam’s books is a gem in Seattle’s International District that opened in 2023 as the district’s first AAPI-owned independent bookstore. Sokha Danh, a Cambodian-American, named the bookstore after his father who took their family of seven to the library every week when he was growing up. Sokha runs mam’s books with the help of his family and amazing support from the community.

“My parents never had much in terms of material wealth, but they always provided for us – and books were always a central part of our lives as Cambodian refugees trying to make it in America,” says Danh. “Our vision is to create a physical space in the community that uplifts Asian American voices and perspectives.”
